Yongphulla Airport (also known as Yonphulla Airport) is located 33km southeast from Trashigang town in eastern Bhutan. The airport is situated at an elevation of 9,000 ft (2,700 m) above mean sea level. The airport was constructed in the 1960s by the Indian Army, originally just an airstrip located atop mountainous terrains. The domestic airport helps to connect locals and tourists to the easternmost part of the Kingdom. Trashigang, also known as the “Jewel of the East” is a popular tourist destination with much to offer to travellers. The airport was closed temporarily in October 2013 and reopened on 8 October 2017 following an upgraded runway. At present, Drukair operates two domestic flights from Yongphulla Airport - to Paro International Airport and Bathpalathang Airport.
